UK Wildcats

The General English course is offered Tuesday and Thursday. It is intended to improve the general language skills of non-native speakers of English and will focus on listening, speaking, reading, and grammar. Participants are required to purchase a book/materials packet.

The Test Preparation course is offered Monday and Wednesday. It will prepare students for the GRE Verbal and TOEFL examinations. The course emphasizes vocabulary building strategies, critical thinking exercises, test-taking skills, and 30-minute essay writing workshops. Participants are required to purchase a book/materials packet.

Who participates? Non-native speakers of English of all proficiency levels may attend this program, and it is designed for participants who are already in the United States. For example:

  • visiting faculty

  • exchange visitors

  • employees of local companies

  • residents of Lexington and surrounding areas

  • graduate students

  • spouses of graduate students and faculty

  • and anyone else who does not need a student visa

Can I take the TOEFL? Yes. At the end of each class, students have the option to take the institutional TOEFL offered every 8-weeks. The cost is $20. The price is the class and the TOEFL is less than the price of just the TOEFL when signing up apart from our program!

Where do I go from here?
