This General English course is intended to improve the general language skills of non-native speakers of English and will focus on listening, speaking, reading, and grammar.
Who participates? Non-native speakers of English of all proficiency levels may attend this program. It is designed for participants who are already in the United States. For example:
- visiting faculty
- exchange visitors
- employees of local companies
- residents of Lexington and surrounding areas
- graduate students
- spouses of graduate students and faculty
- and anyone else who does not need a student visa
Can I take the TOEFL? Yes. At the end of each 8-week term, students have the option to take the institutional TOEFL (TOEFL ITP). The cost is $50, payable via check or money order in our main office or at the test center. Please note that, unlike the TOEFL Internet-Based Test (TOELF IBT), the scores for the TOEFL ITP may only be used at the University of Kentucky.
