Intensive English Program Application Procedure

This application procedure is for students who are ONLY interested in studying in the Intensive English Program (IEP) of English as a Second Language (ESL) at the University of Kentucky.

  • If you are interested in pursuing a degree at the University of Kentucky, you should apply directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission or to the Graduate School. That way, your admission to an undergraduate or graduate program can be processed at the same time. Your admission will conditional upon completion of our ESL program or upon meeting the required test scores.

How to Apply to the Intensive English Program:

Deadline: Applications must be received 30 days before the start of each term (calendar). Exceptions may be made.

To apply for admission, you will need to:

  1. Complete the IEP Application Form.

  2. Pay the $100 application fee online.

  3. E-mail a resume and/or transcripts to esl@uky.edu.

  4. If you require a visa, send the following documents to esl@uky.edu:

  • a copy of the biographical information page of your passport
     
  • a bank or scholarship letter (or combination) that verifies financial support for one year of study.
    • The letter should be in English and in U.S. dollar amounts.
    • Please note that this letter can be no more than 120 days old.
    • Currently, students must provide proof of funding in the amount of USD $29,039 to be issued a Form I-20 for CESL.
    • Note: Students must provide additional proof of funding if bringing dependents - in the amount of $7,350 for a dependent spouse and/or $5,040 per dependent child.

 

Transfer Admission (for visa holders from another U.S. institution):

To apply for a transfer from another U.S. institution, you will need to:

  1. Follow the steps listed above.

  2. Also include in your e-mail to esl@uky.edu:

  • a copy of your visa
  • a copy of your I-94 card
  • a copy of your I-20 (if you are in F-1 status)

       3. Once you are admitted to our ESL program, we will send you an F-1/J-1 Transfer Form. This form verifies your dates of attendance at your current institution and must be completed by that institution in order to transfer your SEVIS record to the University of Kentucky.
