Global ESL Pathway Program (undergraduate courses)

Get started on your degree!
Earn 20 or more credits towards your undergraduate degree at UK. You will earn credits in a supportive environment, with first classes including UK 101: Introduction to UK Academic Life and A&S 100: Reading and Writing for Academic Purposes.

WHO ARE GLOBAL ESL PATHWAY STUDENTS?
Students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree at UK but do not meet the language proficiency for admission are able to enroll in the Global ESL Pathway program. Students work towards an undergraduate degree by completing select credit-bearing courses while improving English language competency. Students also benefit from additional resources such as tailored classes and coordinated advising. Students have access to all of UK’s facilities and resources, including campus housing.
 
APPLICATION AND DEADLINES
To apply, please complete the UK Undergraduate Application and indicate that you are interested in the Global ESL Pathway.
  • Spring Semester (Start in January):   Application Deadline October 15
  • Fall Semester (Start in August):         Application Deadline May 15
PLACEMENT
Start in Semester 1: TOEFL iBT 53 - 64 or Duolingo 80 – 85; Pathway will last 2 semesters.
Start in Semester 2: TOEFL iBT 65 - 70 or Duolingo 90; Pathway will last 1 semester.
*IELTS scores of 5.5 qualify students for the Global Pathway, but a TOEFL or Duolingo score is required to determine placement.
 
TRANSITION TO UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES
After successfully completing the Global ESL Pathway, all undergraduate students are eligible for the TOEFL waiver for admission to the undergraduate program (excludes Nursing).
